Houjicha is a unique Japanese tea. Like most Japanese green teas, the leaves are picked, steamed, shaped, and dried. After drying, Houjicha goes through an extra step -- it is roasted over charcoal fire in a ceramic pot. This roasting creates the tea's beautiful bronze color and sweet nutty flavor.
